Seedlings on the porch... pre-disaster. |
Poor little seedlings! But, all was not lost. I only lost the herbs and half of the tomatoes. The herbs can be re-started, and I had started more tomatoes than I needed anyway. It's still disappointing, but not a complete disaster.
The veggie garden, all tilled under and ready to go. |
I've started working on the vegetable garden bed for this year. It's always a blank slate, as we till it under with the tractor every spring. So far, all I've done is stake out where the beans and cucumbers will go and put in the raised beds for the lettuce. It's time to start planting the cool season veggies, but the weather is being less than cooperative. Some days it's warm and sunny, some cold and rainy. Not much gets done when it's cold and rainy, and when it's warm and sunny the list of chores is a mile long. Such is farm life, and I wouldn't give it up for all the sunny days in the world!
I'm glad you managed to recover some of your seedlings at least. Especially tomatoes, they take a while to get going. I can empathize with the less than cooperative weather. We're almost floating away. Had more than 9 inches of rain just in March. Our soils are completely saturated, there are landslides in the area, and although plants enjoy the rain, they also need some sun! I have a hunch the weeds will be a mile high by the time the rain finally stops :( Crossing my fingers the weather improves for both of us very soon!
ReplyDeleteOh no! At least you still have some, and you have time to start new ones, too...
ReplyDeleteOh no, winds for you too? I am glad the damage was only to some seedlings... Your vegetable bed looks enormous, it is probably the size of my entire yard! I am looking forward to more pictures of it as the vegetables grow.
ReplyDeleteWe are having windy days, too. I'm glad you didn't lose all your seedlings. You have a great attitude about it. Maybe the ones that are left will be the biggest producers.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry about your seedlings!! I had a mishap with my first batch of basil -- I put their container on a surface that was curved and well, they all dumped onto the ground. DUMB! You are going to have one great, big, delicious garden. Love the pic of your little one!!
ReplyDeletePoor seedlings, and they were so dependent on you, lol. Having a positive attitude is good. I would have been really kicking myself which would not have been all that positive.
ReplyDeleteShannon, that is going to be a huge garden! Please remember I suggested a horse manure for veggie starts swap. Maybe that is looking even better now. I would bet big money that the wind did not blow the horse dooey away! George
ReplyDeleteOh well, you have a good attitude and it looks like you will have quite the large garden.
ReplyDeleteIf that is your daughter, she is the cutest little thing in her green boots!
